About Me

Hello! My name is James Schaap, and I am a DC-based multimedia journalist currently pursuing a Master's in New Media: Photojournalism at George Washington University. With a collegiate background in European, World, and American history, I bring a deep understanding of global events and geopolitics to my work.

Throughout my academic and professional journey, including an undergraduate degree in History from UCLA and my current Masters program at GW, I have consistently developed my skills in creating compelling photo and video content. Mainly, my editorial expertise involves tools like Adobe After Effects, Premiere Pro, Photoshop, and DaVinci Resolve, allowing me to produce award-winning visual content that engages audiences across multiple platforms.

I have previously worked as a staff photographer for The Daily Bruin at UCLA and assisted the well-known celebrity photographer Scott Downie in Beverly Hills. Currently, I serve as a staff photographer for the GW Hatchet at George Washington University, and I am always available for freelance visual journalism work in the DC area.
